Rajasthan sets 15-day target for quartz-feldspar leases, 30-day timeline for mining plan approvals

State to coordinate with IBM, GSI and RSMET to expedite critical mineral exploration, sampling and analysis.

The Rajasthan Mines Department will coordinate with the Rajasthan State Mineral Exploration Trust (RSMET) and the Geological Survey of India (GSI) to expedite exploration of critical minerals and sampling and analysis of quartz and feldspar, Additional Chief Secretary, Mines and Petroleum, Aparna Arora, said on Thursday.

According to the official press release, Arora said that an agreement between GSI and RSMET would soon be signed for cooperation in the sampling and analysis of minerals.

She also called for research and development on mineral waste left after extracting critical minerals to assess the possibility of scientific disposal and identify minerals that may remain in the waste.

Arora was chairing a meeting with senior officials of the Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM), GSI and the Mines Department at the Secretariat to discuss measures to increase revenue from the mining sector.

She said the state government was focusing on better utilisation of available mineral resources, accelerating mineral exploration, restarting mining operations in non-operational mines, and creating employment and revenue opportunities.

Following the declaration of quartz and feldspar as major minerals instead of minor minerals, Arora directed officials to coordinate with IBM and complete the registration of all remaining quartz and feldspar leases with IBM within 15 days.

She also directed IBM to expedite sampling and analysis of quartz and feldspar and undertake priority G3 exploration of quartz and feldspar blocks as per the Union government's directions.

Abhay Agrawal, Controller, Indian Bureau of Mines, Udaipur, made a presentation on mining activities in Rajasthan. He said mining plans of major mineral leaseholders were being approved at the IBM level on priority. The Union government has also prescribed a 30-day timeline for the approval of mining plans.

Agrawal also presented details of mineral mining and deposits in Rajasthan. He said coordination was being maintained between the Union and state governments and between central government institutions operating in Rajasthan and the Directorate of Mines.

Special Secretary, Mines, Namrata Vrishni, Director, Mines, Mahavir Prasad Meena, and other officials attended the meeting.
