BJP gets majority in Barmer Municipal Council after 15 years:Wins 29 out of 55 wards; Independents become kingmakers in Jaipur's Vatika Municipality

The results of the councillor elections in 47 municipal councils and 252 municipalities across Rajasthan will be announced today. In the first phase, voting was held in 27 municipal councils and 121 municipalities, while the second phase covered 20 municipal councils and 131 municipalities.

The results will decide the fate of more than 35,000 candidates contesting the urban local body elections. Voting was held in two phases on September 9 and 11.

In the first phase, 162 urban local bodies recorded 76.41% turnout, while the 147 bodies in the second phase recorded 71.69% turnout. The overall turnout across both phases stood at 74.05%.

After the results, the race for the posts of municipal council chairpersons and municipality chairpersons will begin. The BJP and Congress have already kept their councillor candidates together in resorts and other secured locations to prevent cross-voting and defections.

27 municipal councils that voted in phase 1

Chomu, Shahpura, Barmer, Jaisalmer, Tijara, Khairthal, Bhiwadi, Karauli, Kuchaman City, Didwana, Dungarpur, Pratapgarh, Chittorgarh, Banswara, Jhalawar, Bundi, Baran, Jalore, Jhunjhunu, Fatehpur (Sikar), Sawai Madhopur, Dholpur, Sujangarh, Churu, Kotputli, Beawar and Nagaur.

20 municipal councils that voted in phase 2

Kishangarh, Pushkar, Tonk, Behror, Sri Ganganagar, Hanumangarh, Sardarshahar, Gangapur City, Sikar, Sirohi, Nimbahera, Rajsamand, Makrana, Hindaun City, Dausa, Lalsot, Deeg, Balotra, Phalodi and Salumber.
