JOSH teams launched in 7 Rajasthan districts to promote TB awareness

The pilot project has been launched in Alwar, Baran, Banswara, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur and Rajsamand.

JOSH (Joint Squad for Health) teams have been launched on a pilot basis in seven districts of Rajasthan to raise awareness about tuberculosis (TB), promote timely testing and encourage patients to complete treatment.

The teams have been launched in Alwar, Baran, Banswara, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur and Rajsamand. District-level launch and orientation programmes were also organised in other districts of the state.

At the national launch of JOSH teams at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on Thursday, Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda said youth participation was necessary to achieve the goal of a TB-free India. He said the teams would spread awareness about TB symptoms, prevention, testing and treatment, and address misconceptions and discrimination associated with the disease.

In the first phase, JOSH teams are being launched in 55 districts across 11 states.

In Rajasthan, officials and doctors participated in the national programme virtually from Swasthya Bhawan in Jaipur. The session was chaired by Principal Secretary, Medical and Health Department, Gayatri Rathore.

As per the Centre's guidelines, each block-level JOSH team will comprise five MY Bharat volunteers and five National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets, led by a designated Class-I officer. The teams will conduct awareness activities and encourage people to seek timely diagnosis and complete their treatment.

During the interaction with MY Bharat volunteers and NCC cadets, Rathore asked them to expand public awareness and participation in the TB-free India campaign. Volunteers were also awarded certificates of appreciation by Rathore and Director of Public Health Ravi Prakash Sharma.

The state-level programme was attended by Additional Mission Director, National Health Mission, T Shubhamangala; Director, AIDS, Sushil Parmar; State TB Officer Purushottam Soni; and other officials, volunteers and NCC cadets.
