Rajasthan Civic Polls: AAP wins Baran Municipal Council, secures 31 seats

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has emerged as the largest party in the Baran Municipal Council, winning 31 seats and forming the board. The BJP and Congress trailed behind in the civic body.

In Jhalawar also, AAP put up a strong performance, with more than 10 of its councillor candidates winning their seats.

Rajasthan Municipal Election Results: Minister credits BJP’s governance

Rajasthan Minister Jhabar Singh Kharra thanked voters across the state following the local body elections, attributing the mandate to the BJP government's performance over the past 31 months.

Kharra said voters had endorsed the government's efforts towards development, resolving public issues and ensuring transparent and impartial governance under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma.

He said the government had worked on issues concerning water and electricity, law and order, and the future of the state’s youth. Kharra also accused the previous government of compromising the future of lakhs of young people between 2018 and 2023, without elaborating on the allegation.

The BJP has emerged as the largest party in the Rajasthan local body election results announced so far, winning 3,323 of the 8,068 wards across the state.

The Congress has won 2,962 wards, while independent candidates have secured victory in 1,783 wards, according to the overall results.

Jodhpur Civic Polls: Congress candidate Girdhari Ketu credits Ashok Gehlot for his victory

Congress candidate Girdhari Singh Ketu credited the people of Jodhpur and former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot for his victory in the Jodhpur Municipal Corporation election, while taking a swipe at Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. However, the municipal corporation is witnessing a close contest, with both the BJP and Congress leading in 44 seats each so far.

"This victory belongs to the people, former CM Ashok Gehlot and the Jodhpur district president. It also belongs to all Congress leaders who supported me directly and indirectly," Ketu said after his victory.

Taking aim at Shekhawat, Ketu said the Union minister had campaigned extensively against him after his personal assistant was fielded as the BJP candidate.

Rajasthan Local Elections: Congress alleges counting irregularities in Jaipur, meets Collector

Congress leaders met the Jaipur District Collector and raised allegations of discrepancies in the counting process at the Bhawani Niketan College counting centre during the Rajasthan local body elections.

Congress leader Pushpendra Bhardwaj alleged that the party was being denied recounting in seats where it had secured victory by narrow margins, while recounting was being sought in cases where the Congress had lost by slim margins.

"Where there are narrow margins of victory and defeat, they are trying to defeat us in the name of recounting, even when we have won. Where we are insisting on recounting in cases of narrow margins, they are refusing to do so," Bhardwaj said.

Rajasthan Local Polls: Congress alleges CM called Jaipur collector, directed officials to favour BJP

Congress leader Pratap Singh Khachariyawas on Sunday alleged that Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma called the Jaipur collector and directed officials to ensure BJP candidates win in closely contested municipal election wards.

Speaking about the trends in the Jaipur Municipal elections, Khachariyawas said the current figures were still at an early stage and claimed that the Congress was heading towards a strong mandate in Jaipur.

He alleged, "Dishonesty is happening. CM Bhajanlal Sharma called the collector of Jaipur yesterday and said that wherever there is a win or loss by a few votes, make the BJP win."
